About Us
Beyond Net Zero Energy Homes seeks to build and teach everyday DIYers how to build their own affordable super energy efficient house. Inspired by nature's ability to self-sustain, we seek to make building that can do that too, buildings that are super insulated and energy efficient, have solar, batteries, rain water collection systems, and utilize building science. We believe in the motto: you can do it, we can help.
We are not professional builders with decades of experience however, we are dedicated to researching what we don’t know, asking experts for advice, and willing to put in the time and sweat to turn a passion from an idea to reality. Currently we are building a tiny house on wheels that meets all of these requirements. We want to demonstrate that it is possible to build a super insulated and energy efficient house that has a large enough solar, battery, and rain water collection system to go year-round off-grid at less than $40,000 in materials and without sacrificing modern creature comforts.
Edward Louie, the founder of Beyond Net Zero Energy Homes, is passionate about civil engineering, energy efficiency, energy policy, building science, construction, climate change, sustainable cities, transportation, green buildings, affordable housing, zoning and city planning policy, reducing income inequality, and increasing intra and intergenerational income mobility.
